WeavesAlthough there are many different weaving constructions, satin and taffeta are the most commonly used. Today, the label constructions used include:Single Taffeta- 1 figure pick for every ground pick.Efficient to produce, weft colour woven only once and recommended for labels where price is an issue and image is not a factor. Double Taffeta- 2 figure picks for every ground pick. The weft colour is woven into the warp yarn twice therefore covering any "dots" and resulting in a better looking label. The double weave will normally only apply to specific sections of the label, not to the entire label. Damask- High definition weave using at least two fillings. This weaving method will provide a good solid colour and fine detailing. This technique is very popular for main labels used to enhance a brand. Satin- 1 figure pick for every ground pick, however twice as many warp ends as taffeta.Satin labels have more sheen and are usually limited to basic ground colours. Tubular Satin- Tubular construction (hollow in the centre) with a possibility of design on either side of the label. This is woven on a satin warp and most commonly used for zipper pulls. |
